The Adoption Process

All adopters must read this page before contacting me about reserving any babies. I ask this to ensure that any rats I adopt out are given the best possible care once they are adopted. Once you're ready to adopt or make a reservation, contact me so we may get to know each other and work on moving forward in the adoption process.

Babies do not leave the rattery until they are at least 6 weeks old, 5 weeks if you already have rats.
I will not adopt to anyone under the age of 18, unless they have a parents permission. The parent(s) must be present when you pick up the rats.
My rats are not sold as feeders, or as breeders for feeders.
Rats are adopted in same-sex pairs, unless you have other rats of the same sex at home.
Single rats are $20, a pair is $40
If you adopt from me, and at any point can no longer care for your rat, contact me and return the rat to Heart Rats of CT.
If these are your first rats, I must pre-approve the cage, bedding, and food you plan to use, and I will be available for any questions or advice.
Baby rats will be given names just to differentiate them while they are in our care. You are free to change their names after adopting.

When a litter is born, I will first contact anyone who has already made a reservation. Any unclaimed rats will be listed in the Nursery section of my website. When a rat is chosen, I will update the adopter with pictures as they grow up until they are ready to go to their new homes. When the rats are ready to go home, I will discuss a pick-up location with the adopter. I do not deliver rats to adopter's homes, and I do not let people into my rattery to ensure that diseases are not spread to my rats.
